ESTABLISHMENT OF THE INTERDISCIPLINARY WORKING GROUP FOR INVESTIGATING FOREIGN SHIPPING LINES

Lately, the Ministry of Transport has issued Decision No. 3776/QD-BGTVT on establishment of an interdisciplinary working group to investigate foreign shipping lines to verify claims of unreasonable charges and surcharges that were recently reported by businesses.
 
Establishment of the interdisciplinary working group for investigating foreign shipping lines
Lately, the Ministry of Transport has issued Decision No. 3776/QD-BGTVT on the establishment of an interdisciplinary working group to investigate foreign shipping lines to verify claims of unreasonable charges and surcharges that were recently reported by businesses.
 
According to the Decision, the 20-member group was led by its Leader, Mr. Bui Thien Thu, Deputy Director General of Vietnam Maritime Administration.
 
The tasks of the working group include working directly with foreign shipping lines, Vietnamese owners of export and import goods to clarify collection of charges and surcharges for Vietnam's export and import goods; referencing Vietnam’s law and international practice; requesting shipping lines to immediately stop collecting unreasonable charges; inspecting and supervising collection and remittance of transport charges and surcharges for export and import goods.
 
In addition, the working group is responsible for advising the Ministry of Transport as well as other ministries and industries to study and submit to the Prime Minister so as to promulgate mechanisms for managing, supervising the application of transport rates and charges based on rates, domestic surcharges for export and import goods.
 
The working group shall terminate its operation and automatically dissolve after the Prime Minister promulgates mechanisms for managing, supervising the application of freight rates and transport surcharges.
 
This Decision takes effect from its signing date.
